You Sold Your Wellesley House: Now What?

You have accepted an offer and sold your home! Now what? At this point, it may seem like all of your hard work and focus has been on selling your home, so you may be wondering what to do next.

Keep Copies of the Paperwork

Keep copies of all the closing paperwork when you sell your home. This is good to keep on hand in case you need to refer to it, but you will also need the information from the sale when you file your taxes.

Prepare Your New Home

If you have already found and closed on your new home, you can finish making the updates you want to complete before you move in. Laying new carpet, painting walls and remodeling is often easier before you have moved in.

However, if you haven’t closed on a home yet, use the time you were using to sell your house to find that dream home for your family. The easiest way to find a home quickly is to work with an agent that is experienced in the Wellesley real estate market.

Notify People of Your New Address

As soon as you close on the home, you can start notifying family, friends, employers and people you do business with of your new address. You should also work with the post office to have your mail forwarded. Forwarding services generally continue for a few months, so you’ll have time to tell people about your new address.

Pack Room by Room

Don’t panic when it comes to packing. Start with just one room and clearly label all the boxes as you go. This approach will make it easier to pack and even unpack, as all your things will already be organized by room.

Pack things like seasonal items, decorations and other things you won’t need as soon as you move into your new home first and load them into the truck first. This way, the things you will need right away will be near the front of the truck.

Another tip is to pack a few “move-in” boxes full of things like clothes, hygiene items, cleaning supplies, paperwork and your cell phone charger. Label these and make sure they are easy to find so that when you arrive at your new home, you can quickly find these essentials.

Settle into Your New Home!

The best part of moving is getting to settle into your new home! Take this opportunity to get your rooms, closets and garage organized. Your things are already packed and labeled, so you can leave seasonal décor and other seldom-used items in their boxes and neatly store them.

Moving into a new home is also a great time to experiment with the way you arrange your furniture. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut and group things together automatically, but moving your furniture around and even moving things from room to room can make your furniture feel like new.

Closing on your home means you are one step closer to getting to settle into your new, dream home.
