When it comes to selling your home, it is important to make it shine like a model. After all, first impressions are everything. Therefore, I have some tips to help you make your home shine just like a model home so you can get the most from your asking price.

When showing your home keep the windows open and turn on all lights to give the impression of a happy home. Add fresh fruit to your kitchen counter or table and try baking some cinnamon cookies to create a fresh baked smell. Combine this with the tips below for mass appeal.

How to turn your home into a model home:

Curb Appeal – Most potential buyers will not even look further than your yard if it is not appealing. Therefore, curb appeal is one of the most important steps to making your home shine. Clean up overgrown landscaping and groom the exterior of the home by keeping the lawn cut on a regular basis while your home is on the market. If you need a new coat of paint, do it. You also want to pay attention to the mailbox and front door. These items may need a little touch up. And, last but not least, wash the siding and all windows.

Declutter and Update – There’s no bigger turn off’s than clutter. People just can’t see themselves in your home if you have a lot of clutter or personal items out in the open. Therefore, you should clean the inside of your home from top to bottom including ceiling fans, windows, baseboards, doors, etc. You may want to seek the assistance of a cleaning company if this is overwhelming to you. Check for odors from pets and old furniture. Deoderize as needed. Also, remove some furniture from each room. The more open you make the space the better. Buyers want homes with lots of space. If you are going to stage your own home, create focal points in each room. Make sure there are clear paths everywhere you walk. If your furniture is old and worn you may want to consider buying furniture covers or buying new furniture if your budget will allow. Take your personal items like photos, artwork, books, and collectibles and box them up. Your goal is to have each room like a model room.
