“Foodie Fridays” in Austin
Geno and I made it a point last week-end to stop in for lunch and try a new café located off 2222 in The prestigious River Place Community. Its claim to fame is it's Contemporary American Fast Casual place to eat – something that is becoming more and more popular here in Austin. A place where you can go and get eggs benedict, coffee, dessert, a martini, a delicious sandwich or some certified Angus pot roast – they have it all!

There is a certain level of comfort here at the Black Walnut that is created by the warm high back chairs, belt driven fans, wood paneling and high def TVs. You’ll also enjoy the patio for dining when the weather starts warming up. The dining experience here is pretty much unmatched in a fast casual style restaurant. They look forward to getting feedback from their guests, they not only listen to what they say - they act on it. And, because they do you will find weekly features and drink features. Many of their creative menu items and successful operational systems would not be possible if they did not listen and then act.
You walk in and check out their menus placed by the large board which explains the process (very helpful). You place your order at one of the check in stations and take a buzzer to your table of choice. When your food is ready they will buzz for you to retrieve your food. I tried their chicken quesada's and Geno tried a chicken sandwich..loved mine Geno felt the chichen was lacking a little in flavor. We tried the Doohickey's Crisp Southwestern egg rolls for an appetizer and they were delicious! We will be back!
Everything is cooked to order with pride using only fresh ingredients freshly prepared. Some of what you’ll find on the menu: Toasted Raviolis “Espanol”: ravioli with mild jalapeno cheese, tomato & Pavia alfredo sauces served with garlic bread…Doohickey’s Crisp Southwestern Egg Rolls: roasted chicken, corn, black beans, jalapenos, cilantro, sweet bell peppers, pico de gallo with fresh lime and sour cream…Blackened Salmon Caesar Salad: blackened salmon, croutons, Marie cheese, romaine lettuce with Caesar dressing and garlic bread…Western-Easter Omelet: sweet bell peppers, red onions, scallions, mushrooms, tomatoes with mozzarella & cheddar cheeses. Main course choices include Lobster Tacos: corn tortillas, seasoned lobster, fresh lime, lettuce, pico de gallo, spicy avocado ranch with cilantro and Caesar salad….John Mac & Lob: lobster, Pavia alfredo sauce, American cheese, fire roasted salsa, jalapenos, seasoned breadcrumbs over penne pasta and ”Calle Ocho” Cubano: pulled pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles, spicy mustard on a baquette. Dessert offers a variety of award winning hand crafted gelatos, cakes, pies and cookies.
