ARE YOU READY FOR PHASE 1 - SILVER LINE METRO SERVICE?
Phase 1 of the Silver Line Metro Service runs from Wiehle Avenue in Reston east to a point between the East and West Falls Church Metro stations. The Silver Line Metrorail will merge with existing Orange Line tracks and carry passengers to the Stadium Armory Station before switching to Blue Line tracks, ending at the Silver Line at the Largo Station in Maryland.
Features of the Phase 1 Silver Line:
1. There will now be rapid transit service to Dulles International Airport and Tysons Corner.
2. Passengers will have a one-seat, no transfer ride from Reston to downtown Washington, DC and Prince George's County. That means patrons don't need to transfer to get to downtown.
3. Pedestrians will be able to use the bridges during the hours when Metrorail is operating.
4. It will serve Orange Line stations in Arlington and the District.
5. 4 STOPS at the Tysons Corner stations:
- McLean Station, along Route 123 at Scotts Run Road/Colshire Drive near the Capital One Building
- Along Route 123 at Tysons Boulevard, near Tysons Corner Center and the Galleria
- Greensboro Station along Route 7 west of Route 123 and east of Westpark/Gosnell Roads near Marshalls and SAIC
- Route 7 and Spring Hill Road, near several auto dealers, Walmart and the Sheraton Hotel
6. All stations are accessible via pedestrian entrance pavillions and bridges across those streets.
7. The Wiehle-Reston East Station is in the middle of the Dulles Toll Road/Dulles Airport Access Highway, just beyond the intersection of Wiehle Avenue.
8. Kiss-and-Ride drop offs for buses, taxis and vans are located in the following stations:
- McLean Station
- Spring Hill Station
- Wiehle-Reston East Station
9. Parking for commuters are located at:
- McLean station, privately-owned lot for about 700 vehicles
- Wiehle Avenue Station, Fairfax county and a private developer jointly built a below-ground commuter parking garage for 2,300 vehicles and another 1,000 spaces that will be used for public parking until the developer builds on the land above the garage
10. Bicycle facilities can be found at all five stations. There is indoor garage bike parking in the Wiehle-Reston East Station.
11. Estimated Fares (still subject to change) are currently estimated to be:
Rush Hour from McLean Station to Metro Center, $4.40 and from Wiehle-Reston East, $5.75.
12. Travel times from Tysons Corner Station are approximately 25 minutes to the Ballston Station, 32 minutes to Smithsonian Station and 40 minutes to Woodley Park-Zoo Station.

What Can Riders Expect With in the New Silver Line?
- New fleet of 7000-series trains replacing oldest cars with added train capacity.
- WMATA (the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority) has ordered more than 600 new cars, including 64 for Phase 1 of the Silver Line and 64 for Phase 2. Equipped with state-of-the-art safety technology and numerous features, these cars will be tested on the system over the next several months, and Metro will send data back to the Kawasaki production facility in Lincoln, Nebraska, to finalize the railcar designng process.
- Phase 2 that will run from Wiehle-Reston East to Ashburn with stops at Reston Parkway, Herndon, Innovation Station (Route 28), Dulles Airport, Route 606 and Ashburn is slated to open in 2018.
We know you're excited but the construction is 99% complete. Extensive testing of all systems must still be completed by the contractor, the Airports Authority and WMATA to ensure completion of a safe, reliable system.
