Why Real Estate Agents Don't Answer Their Phones
Many years ago, about 15 to be exact, I was taking my real estate license courses. At that time, on-line study wasn't available. We had to take the self-study modules, or attend classes. Both done in person at the real estate school.
When I was completing my hours of training necessary to take the real estate license exam I became friends with another young agent hopeful. We got into a conversation and one of things she mentioned was "Real Estate Agents don't answer their phones."
Since I was working at a real estate office at that time, as a receptionist, I was honing my skills in that regard. The comments I would get from callers were similiar: Why don't real estate agents answer their phones?
Then I became licensed, and started answering my phone! I actually picked up clients by doing so. They would say "WOW . . . a real estate agent that actually answered their phone!"
Now it's becoming annoying. There are times when I don't answer the phone.
As a business owner for some time, I actually DO know where I can find . . . whatever it is I'm looking for, or wanting to buy, or the service I'm looking to find. I don't need, or want, unsolicted calls.
The calls fall into 3 categories now:
- Spammers - these are the folks that found me on-line and want me to know they can get me first page Google . . .
- Lookie Loos - they have gotten all excited about a home they found on an IDX feed. "Hi, I'm calling about your listing."
- Viable Clients - they are actually seeking Buyer Representation and are calling the office to set up a time to meet and consult about their upcoming home purchase.
When 2 out of 3 are counter-productive, I'll assume I'm not the only agent who has seen the shift.
Now I know why agents don't answer their phones all the time.
