Storm Atlanta GA
YES - Really Cold & Really ICY and Still Really Cold

Let's start with a picture -  3:00 pm on Thursday, January 30, 2014. Temperatures stayed under 20 degrees since Tuesday at Noon - unless in the sun - no way to melt!

Everyone in Atlanta has his or her own snow story this week - mine is a simple. It took 5 hours to go a distance that would ordinarily take 30 minutes. I got within one mile of my home and had to park the car and walk the rest of the way!

I listened to educational cd's in the car. I ate a half sandwich left over from lunch. I stopped to fill up with gas. And after 3 hours, I stopped to get a snack. I was fine! Just driving slowly and being conscious of reckless drivers.

The biggest PROBLEM was drivers who BLOCKED THE BOX - that is - crossed into an intersection when there was no room for them to go all the way through the intersection!!!! UGH!!!!

At one major intersection, I sat through five light cycles because the intersection was completely blocked by cars that could not clear the intersection after they entered it. At that point, I took out my crochet project, put the car into PARK and just sat and waited. Eventually, I got to the head of the lane and then I actually got through it! That happened about three more times!

Cut to the last scene - I finally get to the main street going to my home and a driver ahead of me slipping on the ice decides to "put the pedal to the metal" trying to get free, cuts in front of me and starts slipping sideways down the hill towards my car. SCARY!!!

Hey - I learned to drive in Connecticut. OK - long, long ago BUT I remember: Don't get in the way of a bad driver. I went into reverse, put the car into park and waited it out. Unfortunately, by the time that cleared up, I was mid-way on the hill and had no way to get going again.

So I reversed a bit more, parked and decided to walk the rest of the way home - about a mile. A young woman was stuck in her car behind me. I coached her to a safe parking position and she walked home with me, had dinner with us at 10:30 pm and slept over! Our next-door neighbors wound up with "guests" also. BTW - I was able to get my car home around 3:00 pm today.

Dear Readers -

Here's a link to the map of the snow adventure.

Where my car was (A) and I live (B) and where the photo (C) was at 3pm today.
If there was sun on the pavement - ice all gone but if no full sun --- DANGER!
Bye!

I'm sure glad I live where there isn't that much traffic.  We had snow and even icy roads and while it took me a little longer than normal to get home no one blocked my path.  Glad you made it home.  Hope tomorrow it will finish melting up there.

Wow, that is crazy!  People up north are joking about how a little snow throws off an entire city but they fail to realize that there are no plow trucks or sanders down there.  Glad you made it home safely!

I missed this when you wrote it but I actually felt compelled to write something as well when I kept seeing northerners pooh poohing it all over social media. It goes back to "walk a mile in my moccasins . . ." Which in this case was quite literal.
