Sometimes it’s the little things like CraigsList

Sometimes it’s the little things like CraigsList real estate moving john mccormack mccormick debbie

So often in our real estate business sellers are making major decisions and when it comes time to dealing with items they don’t wish to take with them they are lost for options on what to do.  Sometimes they may not be very internet savvy and really have no idea how to market their things via Craigslist, Ebay or similar sites.

After speaking with some clients of ours today and understanding just how distressed they were even to the point of just giving things away.  Debbie and I decided to intervene realizing the value of needed cash in selling these items.  We went to our clients home took pictures of things they will not be taking with them on their cross country move.  We helped price items appropriately then did the posting for them on Craigslist.  Now all our sellers have to do is answer the phone and take in the cash.  They will have much less to pack up when they soon make the move to their new retirement home.

Sometimes it’s the little things we can do that make a big difference in helping our clients.   No, posting on Craigslist for a client won’t be making us any money but we know the clients appreciates it and they will tell that story to others.

Watch out for scam's on Craigs List. It's not all bad. We had a slot machine we did not want around and I found a wonderful woman who gave us cash for it but there are some horror stories too.

Just be careful

John- I love this.  So often when I mention Craigslist to anyone, it is immediately shot down, and I understand. We've purchased and sold a lot on Craigslist but only after doing our due diligence.  It is an ideal way to sell something large like furniture.  And, yes, a lot of people aren't internet savvy so kudos to you for steppin in to help.

Good morning friends.

Great to see you today and very much appreciate you taking time to read our post and leave a comment.

Debbie is the Queen of Craigslist.  Yes I've heard all the horror stories but she has listed and sold at full price everything from kitchen appliances, furniture, door knobs, handles and locks even sold the 14 year old tires off her car.  We sat our clients down and explained what to say and not to say when their phone begins ringing then Debbie typed prices and opinions up as well as to how to handle the callers.

Our clients literally walked us to the car thanking us all the way.  They were seriously so stressed they were already giving 'good' things away as neighbors were coming in and out.  Not cool when they could be utilizing the cash.

Make it a great day in all you do in and out of real estate.

That is really how great things work.  I post tons of stuff on Craigslist for people, and they really appreciate not having to have people come to THEIR homes to sell it.  Kudos to you and Debbie for being so thoughtful.

John, very timely...I am doing that with a client for which I am listing her house this month and she is cutting space in half when she moves to her new place... it really makes a difference.

Well done, John!   I love that or the FREE Craigslist, for when all of the valuable things are gone, but the house is still full.  One hour on a Saturday, and your place is clean!!!!

John, I posted some furniture on a FB page, Greenbrier County Yard Sale for my clients to help them sell some patio furniture. They didn't have a computer and needed some help. So, like you and Debbie, I helped!

John

It sounds like a super idea. If successful and becomes more than you ca handle, you could employ a high school student to do it and provide a much needed service for your clients. What a win-win, cheers cvc

UPDATE:  Our clients called day one with everything SOLD at full asking price via CraigsList. They are thrilled and are excited that they now have cash in hand instead of just giving their things away to neighbors as they were doing!  I must say I don't do any online marketing such as this so Debbie get's all the thanks and glory for this one.  She really rocks in going the extra mile for all our real estate clients.

John, I take photos and make up fliers for my clients to sell their pontoons for them, their extra equipment that won't be needed anymore and furniture. I've put wood into woodstoves when the electricity was off (the seller had it cut off before the buyer could call in to have it transferred right before a big snow storm), brought ladders over to remove debris from the roof, and recently removed a Moosehead that was supposed to be taken by the sellers....oops! But I found a new home for "Bullwinkle" and a neighbor made a quick $100 for "pool money" by helping!

It's quite fun sometimes thinking about what we will go to great lengths to do because of who we are. I call it "real estate and other jobs as assigned"...it's become one of my mantras.
