Island, Melissa Ben-Ishay opened her first mini cupcake store in Manhattan's Soho in 2009. Since then, the chain has opened an additional 10 stores in the Big Apple before heading across the river and, happily for us, into Nassau County.
A clever idea for an ever increasing weight conscious society, Baked By Melissa offers bite sized confections in a variety of colorful and flavor filled options. Each cupcake, just a little bigger than a quarter, sells for $1.00, with the chocolate dipped going for $1.50. They do also offer volume discounts.
My personal goal is to taste every one of the original 10 flavors, including peanut butter cup, mint chocolate chip, cookie dough, red velvet, chocolate graham, and a decadent sounding Peanut Butter Fluff, dipped in chocolate.
