If being a People Person means you are a good socializer it may be the reason why agents don't do much business. They never get past having a good chat. We do have to ask for their business.
Thanks for the post Joe.
Joe, I love it ... " I wonder what the rest of us must be." That phrase dates back to the 80's - does it not. We have to bring more to the table. We have to be damn good at what we do and treat our clients like Kings, Queens & Princesses.
Social Intelligence has its place, but solid skills are essential. Good luck with your hiring process, Joe.
A People Person... that's interesting... interviewing agents I get a lot of... I love houses... I am curious Joe as to what trait most impresses you when you're looking to hire a new loan officer...
I think you need a mix of all of it. They need to be able to converse with the clients in a friendly manner and get down to the number crunching as well.
Joe, I am a people person, (according to others), but I'm also damn good at servicing my clients and getting them to the closing table. I think the combination of the two offers the best chance for success.
Joe,
I have met those people person. Some of them are not interested in doing the work, they just like to schmooze with no purpose in mind. Wishing you success. A
Joe, no matter what part of the real estate industry you are involved with, just being a "people person" leaves quite a void. As belinda mentioned...it's a combination skills.
Not easy to find someone with the right combination of personality, charm and strong work ethic who is technically competent-however, it is probably easiest to teach a little in terms of the technical competence.
I think hiring people/finding the right person is one of the more challenging things that we do as business owners. - Debbie
If you are not giving them the leads then I guess you dont have a lot at risk to give some a shot and see. In my case I make sure they have experience and can at least speak the lingo and then follow up on the leads I give them to make sure they arent wasting them.
Tough call but you will make the right call
Most of us like peple, but that is not enough to do your job well...professional skills help.
I was always told NEVER to describe yourself as a people person in an interview or on a resume. Whether you are a loan officer or a realtor, having good people skills is not enough. A strong work ethic, knowledge, experience and generating results are important too.
Good morning, Joe. I will have to admit, I am not one of those touchy/feeley people persons. However, I do like people.
Hiring the right loan officers must be quite a challenge. Many have not learned the importance of building a referral based business.
Joe Finding someone that is capable of handling a client from the initial phone call to the closing table is a new-hire! Are you looking for someone to train that has a little experience or a seasoned veteran?
Liking people and effectively working with people are two different things.
Joe: Compassion for the job itself and the clients combined with the knowledge of the industry should do it. I personally like Michelle's input though. "Liking people and working with people are two different things."
