.99 Cents to View A home....A Good Idea for Renters?

I happen to have a rental listing in my inventory and one of the calls I got was rather interesting.  We were discussing my listing and the fact that the potential client was going to be viewing some other homes that were available.  I naturally asked if he was working with a realtor.

He said no that he was going on his own and that the listing company allowed him to view the home as long as he had a valid credit card.  They were charging him .99 cents to view each home and he had a 1 hour window between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.  He had a number to call and then he would be given a pin to get into the lockbox and retrieve the key.

Lockbox

I immediately knew who the company was and I thought...ingenious.  Imagine if you are one of the top landlords in the country and are charging potential tenants that bypass a realtor .99 cents to view your properties which are all vacant.  It's amazing how those .99 cents will add up over time.

So what is your opinion regarding this procedure??

This is a risky business. Giving stranger an access to a vacant house without any human being?
