As I sat down to write this post, I carefully looked at the ActiveRain Guidelines. I wanted to highlight one section that I think is the epitome of ActiveRain. I chose the following:
ActiveRain is Built for Community
ActiveRain was designed to be a place for real estate professionals to network; to have a sense of community. So how do we go about doing that? We start by just reading posts, then commenting and, when we finally feel comfortable, writing blog posts. Through this regular interaction something unexpected begins to happen.
We actually start to like the people who we connect with virtually everyday. Maybe it's because we have things in common; shared opinions, shared experiences, love of dogs. It doesn't have to be one thing. It can be any number of things.
Real estate is a competitive business. As such, it's hard to be friends with local agents. Don't get me wrong, I'm always friendly with other agents but being friends is a different matter. There's a difference between being friendly and being friends.
ActiveRain gives me the ability to be friends with other agents. Last night, I received an email from an AR member in response to a blog post of mine she'd read. I decided to call her. We talked on the phone for almost an hour. It was as though we'd known each other for years. And the truth is, we have. We've been following each other's blog for five years. We do know each other through our blog posts.
Although, I enjoy many benefits from blogging on ActiveRain, it's the regular interaction with agents who I've come to know and respect that keeps me coming back. It's hard for people who've never experienced this kind of thing to understand. I am happy to be part of this community and even happier to call you my friends.
