Captain Phillips for Best Actor entry in the
Third Annual "Be The Star of Your Own Movie" Contest
My associate broker Captain Phillips loved his home and his job in real estate but they needed him for a dangerous assignment.
Seeing he had already made his sales quota for the month, he was still up for more challenges. So he agreed to pilot a freighter around the coast of Somali. Captain Philips turned his real estate over to our capable team and boarded his ship for the dangerous job.
Captain Phillips checked in with our team to get updates on closings and everything was going fine...for awhile. Then trouble. Pirates were circling his ship and wanted to come aboard.
Captian Phillips was used to solving problems with his real estate background, but these pirates were totally unreasonable, but he had run into unreasonable people before.
But they came aboard anyway and they wanted money and fast. This was just like some closing attorneys, so what to do. How to get the money by the closing deadline so everyone would came out happy customers, maybe even customers for life.
It wasn't going to be easy to pull this transaction off but Captain Phillips was confidant and took charge.
But then things took at turn for the worse and the pirates started to get rough, but some deals do that and the Captain phoned our team for backup but they were at the Tuesday morning marketing meeting and not available.
The pirates panicked when they thought the Captain's team was on the way so they took him and escaped in a life boat. Little did they know the Captain had alerted our team on the voice mail to track him on GPS. Security has high priority for his team while in the field and they knew what to do.
In the life boat for a couple of days it got a little lonely; kind of like a showing appointment when the prospects stands you up with no notice and you have to go around and turn off all the lights and leave a dark house all by yourself.
But in the end Captain Phillips team came through and brought in the resources needed to get the job done, the US Navy. The deal was done and Captain Phillip was rescued and reunited with our team. But upon his return Captain Phillip made a suggestion: have a live person answering the phone during the weekly sales meeting in case of emergencies.
Back home I contratulated Captain Phillips on his safe return and updated him on our marketing plan for next month.
My wife Mary Ann was apporached by this pirate who told us his this side of the story.
Through years of analizing rental applications I have a pretty good sense of people and therefore I decided to leave his story out of the movie.
And at the Awards, I expect to be celebrating with a Martini with a twist!
(Oh well, now I know how they feel)
The End
This just in: see the real Captain Phillips in Boston in May at the Life@50 event.
