The Census Bureau is a fountain of information about a neighborhood. Granted, the information is not always as up to the minute as you'd like. As a Realtor, there are many questions I'm not really supposed to answer flat out. It is always a tricky business explaining to clients and potential clients, especially moving to Columbus from out-of-town, the diverse makeup of any neighborhood or community without tripping up and saying something that would break my code of ethics and could potentially be seen as discriminatory against some class of persons. That's something I take seriously because I love what I do and wouldn't want to ever put myself or my client in an awkward situation. Even something as well intentioned as, "What can you tell me about this neighborhood?" could potentially be loaded with problems. As a rule, I stick to discussing the houses, the sales and sold prices, the amenities, and never the people. I can't really answer the question, "Would you live here?" as it's often asked with a raised eyebrow. You want to find out about the community, I'll tell you what I know and feel comfortable with and the rest is up to you. It's soooo easy now to find an unbelievable amount of information about any Columbus area neighborhood. All of my real estate Websites have a community page that talks about the community and provides links to more resources. (X) Not applicable. Source: U.S. Census Bureau, Summary File 1 (SF 1) and Summary File 3 (SF 3) | The Census site gives a nice quick overview of the demographics of any neighborhood. All you need is the zip code to stick at the end of this address: http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/SAFFFacts?_zip=43202 This link, for instance, is 43202--North Campus, south Clintonville in geography. From the run of the mill information, you can also get to maps that support and spread that information out. If you fool around with the site, you can get down to the block level and find out quite a bit about your potential neighborhood. Remember that your Realtor can't discuss much of what you want to know in regard to neighborhood makeup. Not because he doesn't know, necessarily, but because he's just not allowed. A good Columbus Ohio Realtor however, will always be happy to point you in the right direction to get all the answers you want. |
