Budget Friendly Curb Appeal

Spring is coming and you know what that means! Time to spruce up your yard! Whether you are thinking about selling your home or just want a little pick me up, there are some easy, budget friendly ways to perk up your property! Here are a few tried and true ideas for great curb appeal!

  1. Clean it up~ I know, this is a 'no brainer', but raking up old dry leaves, weeding the flower bed, cutting the grass, sweeping the porch/walkway and washing the windows is HUGE in the curb appeal department. It won't cost more than a few hours of your time, some lemon-aid and maybe a sore back, but the rewards are great. Your pretty yard might even inspire your neighbors to clean up theirs, making your neighborhood more appealing to the eye!
  2. Grass is green~ I know, it's a silly statement. But if you have brown patches in your lawn or maybe Rover has a favorite spot he likes to bury his bone, your lawn may need attention. It's time to run to your local home improvement or gardening store. Fertilizer, grass seed or sod, along with some dirt to fill that hole and you should be ready to water, sit back and watch the grass grow.
  3. Paint the front door~ For  anyone coming to visit me (who has never been to my house before) the directions include 'look for the tan house, with the teal green door'. I've seen many colors but I've always been drawn to something that will complement the color of your house without the 'what were they thinking' aspect. Some of my favorite door colors include Bright Yellow, Vibrant Purple, Deep Blue and Lime Green. Find something that suits you and buy a quart of paint - it's inexpensive - doesn't take a lot of time and makes a bold statement. If you're in the mood, maybe you will want to include door hardware too!
  4. Update your mailbox~ You use it almost every day. It's probably just like the one next to it. It's time to give your mailbox a life of its own. Sometimes just a bath and a fresh coat of paint will liven it up. Maybe make it match your new door! Who said mailboxes have to be black or white? Make yours purple with a lime green flag. Don't forget to add some new address numbers, oh and paint the post too.
  5. Take time to smell the flowers~ Irises or Tulips? Roses or Shrubs? Annuals or Perennials? Potted or in the ground? It's all a matter of choice. But no matter what you decide, a splash of color in your yard is calming and inviting and won't break the bank.

In addition to adding some curb appeal to your home, you are also helping to increase your homes value. Potential buyers put a lot of faith into first glances. Give their eyes a reason to sparkle and they will ooh and awe over your front yard as they cross the threshold of your newly painted front door!
