Here on Active Rain there are literally hundreds and hundreds of blogs to choose from daily. I always appreciate when I know mine are being read. I appreciate a little more even when there are comments on my blogs - I know that way I have struck a chord and achieved some common ground with some of you.
The majority of my blogs don't get comments - and that's fine too. There are several reasons for blogging here on Active Rain. Let's look
There's the SEO aspect. Active Rain is one of the most juiced blogs Google sees and therefore it helps to bring you, your website, business or community some much desired love in the form of reads and clicks.
Then there's the aspect of teaching and learning. Reading Active Rain blogs each day enhances my understanding of the business. Understanding how things are done in other areas stretches my experience so maybe I'll be the one not doing it the way it's always been done - but only when I find a better way. Sometimes it makes me thankful for doing business where I do. Active Rain blogs are awesome for establishing authority in the business as well. If you blog a lot, and include examples of things you've done, and lessons you've learned then you have something to offer other professionals and consumers alike. (This is if one of the reasons I find the plagiarists so frustrating).
Then there's the Active Rain ranking and points system. I get points for every blog I write, and I get comment for every comment I leave on another person's blog (ok points for up to 10 comments per day). I dont' always achieve 10 comments per day, but I always comment if I learned something from a post - and usually when I disagree with a post. If we cannot have intelligent conversations on items we disagree on then there's something wrong, don't you think?
The other thing about comments is my posts get more points when they have more comments. If you comment on my posts, or reblog them, I get more points. Again this use of the blog goes toward establishing authority as much as anything.
In short I appreciate all of the posts I read each day. I appreciate the things I learn from other professionals in the business, whether it's things I can do better or things I need to know NOT to do.
Thanks and have an awesome February day!! Yes I said February - can't believe 1/12th of 2012 is already behind us!! Make each day count.
