Real Estate Technology with AgencyLogic

In the following video Googles own Matt Cutts discusses how the tech giant handles duplicate content and what negative effects it can have on rankings from an SEO perspective.

I highly recommend checking out his other videos - they are all available via the Google Webmaster Help YouTube channel. Matt covers lots of interesting and important subjects including:

How Can I Make the Pages on My Site Unique?

Disavow Links Explained

How An Older Website Can Maintain its Ranking Over Time

How To Create Great Content that Performs Well in Google Search Results

I recently noticed most my peers with Market Leader websites haven't revised the canned content.  I'm wondering how that's going to affect their search results?

A steady stream of unique, engaging content published to your website and then syndicated out to your various social media channels is the holy grail of organic search rankings. You no longer need to pay black hat/gray hat SEO "experts" to boost your website rankings but rather reinvest those valuable marketing dollars into quality content creation and syndication to social media.

I do a lot of this. .but not as a spam. .I always insert a link of the post I want for Google to rank for the others to point with the links to that post. .and Google does choose the post I want to feature it at the highest rank always. .. .

Thanks for the posting, I was wondering how Google handled duplicate content. As I have some of the same material on different blog sites.

Stephen, just when you think you have it down pat, Google changes their algorithm. It's getting more and more difficult to stay ahead of the power curve.

Thank you for posting this. I have seen so many people concerned about duplicate content, without really understanding how Google views it. Matt Cutts is certainly the authority.  :)

Thanks all, for the comments. It's an interesting concept to try to understand, the handling of duplicate content.

To your question Shanna, I think it's not clearly answered. I suspect it has to do with page views in the end, or perhaps they check the posting date. Maybe you want to pose that question to Google to have Matt answer?
