Monday, March 24, 2008 - NCD Week Kick Off Press Conference - City Hall Atrium, 117 West Duval Street, 10:00 A.M to 11:00 A.M.  A short program will be held at 10:00 A.M.  Federal and local officials will acknowledge NCD Week and contributions of the CDBG Program to the City of Jacksonville.  The Mayor's Office will present a proclamation designating March 24 - 28, 2008 as National Community Development Week.

 

 

Tuesday, March 25, 2008, - Jacksonville Chamber Foundation, Inc. Small Business Service Center, 5000-3 Norwood Avenue, 11:30 P.M.    CDBG staff will have a walk through of the facility and an orientation meeting at noon for new clients and staff at the facility.  This is an economic development activity staff salaries and benefits are provided with CDBG funds providing technical assistance to low and moderate income persons seeking to start a business and/or expand existing business services in low and moderate income communities.  To date over 2,000 business owners and potential business owners have been assisted through this program.

 

 

Wednesday, March 26, 2008 - Jim Fortuna Senior Center, 11751 McCormick Road, 1:00 P.M. - CDBG will showcase at 1:00 P.M. This multimillion dollar facility leveraged both federal and local funds to provide a state of the art Senior Care to low and moderate income elderly persons in the Greater Arlington community.  CDBG funds have been critical in the development, construction and rehabilitation of many of the City's Senior and community centers.  These centers provide a place for seniors to get healthy meals, community meeting space, and promote recreation and family activities.

 

Thursday, March 27, 2008 - Jacksonville Housing Authority, 1085 Golfair Boulevard, 4:00 P.M. - The Jacksonville Housing Authority Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Program promotes families that are receiving rental assistance to achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency.  On March 27, 2008, at 4:00 P.M. the Family Self-Sufficiency program will be hosting an orientation.  At the orientation, the rental-recipients will receive information about the program, the community partnerships and the requirements of the program in order to assist them to achieve their goals of self-sufficiency. 

 

 

Friday, March 28, 2008 - Boys and Girls Club- YET Center Grand Opening, 555 West 25th Street, 11:00 A.M. - City Leaders, NFL Owners Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver and other supporters come together for the Grand Opening of the NFL Youth Education Town (YET) Facility.  This multimillion dollar facility was funded in part by the Community Development Block Grant.
