Making A Million Points On ActiveRain

By
Education & Training with Retired Executive Director of Education at eXp Non-Licensed

What does it take to get a million points on ActiveRain?

It takes a lot of hard work! It requires a time investment. It calls for frequent commenting and engaging with other ActiveRain members and groups. It demands contributing content regularly and a relentless commitment to the site and a faithful diligence to your blog. Is that all?

Everyone Has to Start Somewhere

I wrote my very first post on AR way back in February of 2007. At the time I worked for the Title Industry at First American Corporation.  Since that time, I have written more than 680 blog posts, commented more than 19,000+ times and 7 years later... still only have 680,000 points.

Celebrating My 7th Year Here on ActiveRain

February 2014 makes 7 years I have been to this site nearly everyday and participated one way or another... even when some days I just come to read other members posts. It has never been about points to me. It's about connecting and helping others through experience, circumstances, knowledge and resources etc. It's always been about giving, not receiving.

But....

Now that I can see the 1,000,000 points glaring at me just over the hill, I'm motivated to join the others, the few, the proud, the million point members here on ActiveRain. Heck, there's even a few members who have hit the 2,000,000+ mark! THAT'S AMAZING!! Who are these point garnishing motivated and inspiring AR heroes?  Just Take a Look Here!

Where are YOU on the ActiveRain Leader-board of Points?

Click here to Find out?  Whatever the result, don't let that discourage you, let it motivate you to push harder to be more, to get more, to give more and to do more for yourself and for your fellow members and our industry. My best friend use to always tell me to "Shoot for the stars if you want to touch the moon" and "The man/woman on top of the mountain didn't fall there!"

Time Flys When You're Focused on Why and Not What or How

I'm looking forward to the day when I can celebrate joining the other 98 ActiveRain Million Point Milestone Members who have achieved greatness and success. These folks share hundreds of success stories thanks to their dedication and commitment to their ActiveRain blogs and to the other members here.

It's the rewards and successes that come from the content that they willingly and freely contribute for the sole purpose of helping others... and to all those members, friends and contributors here on ActiveRain I say... "Salute, Congrats and Cheers~"

Reaching 1,000,000 Points on ActiveRain

It may take me 10 years, and I'll work hard to reach the goal, but I can promise you this: I will continue focusing on posting content that helps others get more out of themselves, out of technology, out of this business and out of life in general.

I'm always looking for better, faster, easier and more efficient ways to help others get the job done. This is not just a passion, it's a mission in my life. Honestly, I'd rather "Make" a million points on ActiveRain than "Get" a million points for contributions if you know what I mean?! :)

THE POINT: The rewards and all the successes that you and I experience here have been (and always will be) just as great or greater than the "points" that represent each and every contribution made. Those that are here just for the million points don't seem to be around as long and don't contribute the quality of content like those who understand their true purpose!

Be A Leader. Be The One. Be Better than Yourself. Make A Difference. Enjoy Being You.

Thanks for contributing all you do.  The key with so much of this is consistency.  You see so many blogs where they racked up 100K in points and then drifted into oblivion and are now waiting tables or working as an office clerk somewhere.

Hi Brad, I didn't realize you had worked for AR. Any idea who came up with the idea to count points? What a brilliant idea!

Brad, I figure about 5k points a week if we do EVERYTHING point wise we should do to max out (with the exception of invite points), so it's a long slog to hit the MM status.  And frankly, I've slowed off the 10 posts a week just slightly.  I'll make sure we have a daily post, but that's all I'll guarantee.

Hi Brad, Maybe AR should give extra points for just being here for so many years. That might help speed up the process for you. In any event, you are doing great.

Hi Brad, the points are fun, and for those of us in California, it takes a bunch to reach the first page of the state leader board, which is also fun.

Tom - thank you. I have discovered that once I was able to focus on helping others instead of worrying or focusing on myself... it helped my find and streamline my blog and what I truly love doing for a living and as a person.

Helping others in any capacity is a deep and sincere passion I have and AR helped me define and refine my purpose.  Getting points for this is just an added bonus! :)

Hi Debbie - 7 years have flown by and the older I get, the faster the years go. Hope to see you again when I'm in your area. Also, if you're EVER in the SF Bay Area, please let me know so we can connect and catch up.

Rob - I think the points are a great motivator, but you're right.

Too many members try and make it the focal point and they never really get deep roots and therefore can't grow like a big tree.

A strong blog is just like a BIG tree... it needs "Rain" water that comes from other members. It needs "fertilizer" that can come from time spent here, it needs "sun" that's provided when contributing quality and not quantity. I 've seen hundreds come and go, but the few that do get it... eventually will return.

Doug - the point system was put into place on ActiveRain by Jon Washburn and Matt Heaton when they first launched ActiveRain as a member driven blogging platform way back when they started the site.

Hi Brad, I seem to have lost my motivation for Activerain points, but I'm close enough now that I know I could focus on it and break a million fairly quickly. I just hasn't seemed to matter as much as some other things I've been working on.

Have a great weekend
