As a REALTOR I wold not want to be the sole source of leads for someone. I already have a wife and three kids to provide for and need no other people dependent on me. I think any REALTOR worth their salt would expect you to cultivate more than one relationship. Remember the whole eggs in one basket thing.
Jacob- I agree with Jeremy, I would use a different realtor each month, it would flatter them, and who knows if they will actually write something.
If you have not promised the other Realtor that he will be the only Realtor allowed to write articles for distribution, you don't owe the first Realtor anything. You didn't have to offer him a chance to write the article.
If any of the other Realtors asks why, tell them the truth, but use this version: He and I have worked together on a couple of transactions and we seem to work together well, so I thought I'd give him the chance.
Truthful, but with the subtle message of "let's work together and I might ask you to write an article for me as well."
Its always good to give your readers chances to different viewpoints and experiences by asking different people to write for the newsletter, but remember that its YOUR name on it, so choosing to ask people that you have some professional experience with is not just a good idea, its a potential reputation-saver. You haven't worked with me, but would you put your name on something I wrote just because I asked? Probably not. But if we had worked together a couple of times and I offered to write an article about buying property in Hawaii, you'd probably know enough about me and how I work to feel comfortable putting your name on it. Same for the Realtors on your list.
I agree with John Dirgo, but personally I would be a little more direct.....this realtor has referred to me some deals...so as a realtor if you referred me some deals and I didn't ask you to be in the newsletter and instead asked realtors that have referred me no business then you would think I am an idiot....
those realtors that aren't sending you any business are certainly not sending you business because of you..you are good looking and full of energy....and its not because of your banks..if you are a bank or a broker/banker chances are you work with the same banks their customers are winding up with! Perhaps some of these realtors are not producing at all and have no listings! Perhaps they require kickbakcs but only get one or two listings a year(and I am VERY against RESPA violations even if they an't find out about it-once you lose your integrity you can't get it back).....some agents need to hear of your success story before they take the first jump with you...so my question is....are you using this newsletter to highlight your successful closings on purchases......that seems to be more important than mad realtors that don't even send you business....if they are mad at you then you should be mad at them because everyone knows the loan officers go to realtors for business-not the other waya round....the Top producers won't care..they will be secure with wha they are doing..the mad realtors are mad at themsleves and if anyone gets mad at you then that is downright unprofessional.....Have you asked the broker to do a quick intro at the sales meetings to show them how great it will be to work with you? Just be aware that some realtors don't really produce at all, some are top producers, some have family members that are mortgage brokers, and some do both and some will work with you despite all this!!!
