I found my oomph in the snow storm

For the last week or so, I’ve been struggling to stay motivated.  Not for any major reason, just a bunch of small ones…..  The last four or five times doing floor time, I’ve received no calls.  An open house I scheduled for this upcoming weekend was canceled by the seller due to snow forecasts.  My neighbor, who knew I was in real estate, listed his home with another company and that person did not do a great job with pictures and pricing.  I haven’t heard from my son in basic training yet.  I haven't been able to get much exercise due to the weather.   Of course, in the same time frame, some good things happened; a lease signing, an offer accepted, a successful inspection, progress on my new logo, a new promising referral, but during the last week or so, I felt as though I was just spinning my wheels.  I didn’t have any inspiration to write any posts - not regarding real estate business, market trends, localism or even personal issues.  I just felt BLAH.

Kat is snowed InThis morning we arose to yet another snowstorm; the second significant snow in three days.  I heard a few snowplows drive by at 5am, and then nothing for hours.  By the time we were up and out of the house to assess the weather, there was a good 8-10 inches of snow and it was just starting to sleet.  The road was still covered with snow and ice.  The radio just announced that a major highway was closed from one end of the state to the other.   Blech.

kat is ready to goBut guess what?   Somewhere between listening to the ice pellets hit the top of the snow, between the rhythm of my shovel picking up and throwing snow, and in the stillness of a morning with no traffic on the snow filled roads, I started to feel my oomph returning.   Ideas started popping into my head.  Positive thoughts filled me.  I found myself loving the fact that I can’t go anywhere today.  Visions of an afternoon with my homemade tomato sauce simmering on the stove, followed by a delicious spaghetti and sausage dinner with fresh bread and cabernet wafted through my mind.

So now, the snow cleanup is done for the morning, and I'm back to my normal self!    This afternoon I will take some credit courses online, write a blog or two, make some phone calls to catch up with leads, and then get my spaghetti sauce on the stove.

Because my oomph was out there in the snow, and I found it.

Kat - that sounds similar to my day here in Westchester County.  I did the snow blowing early and I had already canceled and reschedule a seminar that I was holding today.

Now to some office work.

Kerrie - Thanks!  I've been very productive in the last few hours.

Grant - They're finally cleaning our roads off although I think it's still spitting ice here.   Tomorrow will be much better in terms of traveling.

First of all I LOVE the name of your blog!! And I love this honest and positive blog. We have had similar storms and they are a good time to take in the beauty of the back yard and then go bake some bread while returning phone calls or sitting in on a webinar!

Hey Kat I hear you lound and clear here on the south shore of MA.  I've stayed motivated by providing market updates across my area and working with 3-4 clients for when the weather breaks.  I did manage an accepted offer last week.  One day at a time.
