Nestled in the center of the San Fernando Valley, California, we find the beautiful Japanese Gardens.  As you walk through the gardens or find a spot to sit and contemplate your surroundings, you can’t help but experience absolute tranquility.  You mind, body, and spirit will come together in harmony in enriched relaxation as you take a break from the hustle and bustle of your busy modern world.

Regardless of your belief system, you will feel completely balanced, as a wonderful energy and life force are ever present at the Japanese Gardens.

You will notice the skillful blending of traditional Japanese landscaping with modern Occidental architecture, which blends and unites the desires of the human spirit with our more mundane requirements in everyday life.

As you first enter the Japanese Gardens, you will walk through a dry Zen meditation garden (Karensansui) containing a large grass-covered mound, representing Tortoise Isand, a symbol of longevity, and a Three Buddas arrangement of stones.

Next comes an expansive chisen, or "wet strolling" garden with waterfalls, lakes, greenery, and stone lanterns. At path's end is the Shoin Building with an authentic 4-1/2 tatami tea house and adjacent tea garden.

The garden is a popular spot that can be rented for wedding ceremonies and has also been used to film to Hollywood movies and television shows, such as Star Trek: The Next Generation where it was used to represent various planets and Starfleet locations on Earth, such as Starfleet Academy.

The Japanese Gardens are located at 6100 Woodley Ave, Van Nuys, CA 91406.  Its hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 11:00AM until 4:00PM, and Sunday from 10:00AM until 4:00PM. (The last gate entry each day is at 3:15PM.)  Admission to the Japaense Gardens is $3.00 per person and $2.00 for Seniors 62+ and Children under 10. (Special Event admission fees are generally higher.)  Docent-led or self-guided tours are available.  Please call on the day you wish to visit to make sure the Garden is open.
