In case you didn't hear, Phil saw his shadow this week signaling six more weeks of winter. People are dismayed, at least where I live, because we’ve grown tired of hearing the warnings for wintery mixes, mass accumulations, freezing temperatures, icy conditions. How grand it would have been to have heard instead that he did NOT see his shadow, that we’d turned the corner toward spring, and that we had a mere... Wait... Six weeks till Spring! Whoa. Either way you look at it, the answer is the same. Six more weeks.
You really have to love marketing and the power of words! Same result, presented two completely different ways certainly FEELS like two different outcomes.
How many times do we do that in a given day? In business transactions? In communications within our offices? With our own families? Bent on having someone view it from our own perspective, we persist in getting them to use OUR words, hear OUR questions. If we’d just stop and listen to what they’re saying, we might discover that we’re both on the exact same path.
Today, I challenged my thoughts about spring. In ignorance of the predictions of furry creatures and the date on the calendar itself, the birds in my yard were going crazy this morning, singing like it's almost April. Cautiously optimistic, I then saw the true sign that spring is on the way... my mailman wearing shorts while delivering the mail.
