I was thinking about my first years in sales and realized I was a "Bag Lady".
It's true. I hate to date myself, but thinking back to my first "mobile" phone (and I use that term loosely) and realize I was a high tech Bag Lady. It was almost impossible to dial without both hands and I still remember the sound of the keys to this day. I lived in Atlanta at the time and covered 3 states in sales and was out of range in almost the whole state of Georgia. I carried a pager with me constantly and depending on it for my life-line to the real world. I would run to my car after each page and struggle to stand in a position to get full service.
I believed that I had one my freedom with the introduction of the first cordless flip phone. I was able to leave the vicinity of my car. However, the service issues remained. The weight or the phone and the constant tangle of the antenna in my hair was a battle. At times I wished I was a monkey because the best service was in higher elevations and I had a strong desire to climb a tree.
There were several more changes through the years but I remember the Razor phone as the big break through. Long past the pager and the heavy phones it was a slick and stylish product.....almost a jewelry for geeks. I was loving life with my easy to carry phone and had contact from almost every area.
Who would have thought they could improve on products more. There seems to be an endless choice of phones and improvements with every one. What's next? How can we improve? I am spoiled now with my favorite phone and still have people snicker about the size. It's BIG and it's BAD! I just can't imagine what is next. Will they design a phone to read my mind? One that will pick up my dry cleaning? Or, one that will work 24/7 while I relax on some beach in the Caribbean.
Go ahead.....show the Bag Lady what's next.
