Homeowners Associations Love Or Hate Them
Texas REALTOR, blogger and friend Gary Woltal shares a thought provoking post on the pros and cons of living in an HOA neighborhood. I am the serving my 2nd term on our HOA Board and I'm here to say it's a lot of hard work and stress but worth it to keep everyone on the same playing field, homes and landscape looking great and keeping home values up.
I must admit other than talking to the Board Members within a Homeowners Association I can't think of many residents that LIKE them. I think people LIKE the idea of an HOA protecting their property values, but the details of the HOA bothering them with the blades of their grass one inch too high, your trash cans left out an extra day, your paint fading a little bit, well they just become annoying.
Often I think ALL neighborhoods should scrap HOAs but I know it would bring back the 18 wheeler parked for two months across the street and the picnic tables in the front yard.
Probably too, the junk heap car with no wheels next door.
They can have the power to foreclose, so not to be taken lightly.
YOUR thoughts on HOAs where you live? If you do move where they are, check out their rules closely. Some don't even allow satellite dish antennas.
