The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA)on June 21, 2012 announced changes that would ease the burden of service members who had PCS orders to move and could still honor their financial commitment by having policies to improve the short sale process. Under this new policy, a service member who had a Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac loan and was current on their mortgage could do a shortsale if they were given orders to move. Also, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will not pursue deficiency judgements, promissory notes or cash if they purchased their home on or before June 30, 2012. Military service members must have their loans with either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac to take advantage of the benefits outlined in this program.
