Home Staging Information - Myth or Fact? Part I
It seems today that there is a lot of information out there in the world. It comes from different kinds of sources like word of mouth, TV and the internet. Sometimes it's hard to tell what's true and what's false. We all know not everything on the internet is true and TV often exaggerates the truth, or makes up their own. Word of mouth is a good way to get information, but keep in mind your source. When it comes to home staging, I often find myself clarifying the "truth" about what a home stager does or what home staging is. It's time to debunk the rumors and verify the facts. So here is some home staging information-myth or fact?
#1-Home staging is expensive
Myth. Home staging for the average home does not cost much. Of course every home is different, and different things need to be done. But for the most part, the home staging tips given during the consultation are usually all a home needs. That could mean taking some photos off the wall, moving around accessories, removing some of your existing furniture or reusing it in another room. These things only cost your time.
#2-Home stagers will always recommend that you paint
Fact. Except in the rare cases, where the paint colors are neutral and not scuffed, faded or dirty, a home stager will always tell you to repaint. Painting over bold colors or wallpaper in a neutral tone allows potential buyers to see themselves living in the home. If you already have neutral colors, a fresh coat of paint gives off the impression that your home is well cared for, giving buyers that piece of mind they look for when buying a home.
#3-Home stagers are the same thing as decorators
Myth. In a way home stagers decorate, but with your existing furnishings so that it's appealing to a large number of people. Decorators and interior designers decorate for personal taste, not for the general public. We don't change something in your home because we don't like the style, we change it so that buyers can see the potential of your home without being distracted by your personal taste.

Hello Suzanne, Good information. In our area, so many sellers still feel so taken by it that suggesting anything gathers more insults, and others are more open. I think as our market improves the stress will lighten up. I like all your points they simplify the concept! Thanks for sharing.
