The Calidore String Quartet will perform at the Bradford House, 136 Palm Circle, Placentia, at 3 p.m. Sunday Feb.23. The free concert is the second of the four-concert 2014 season at the 112-year-old Victorian mansion. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.
Their program will be Beethoven’s String Quartet in F Major, Op.18#1; Golijov’s “Tenebrae;” and Schubert’s String Quartet in D minor, “Death and the Maiden.”
The quartet, formed at Colburn Conservatory of Music in 2010, is composed of violinists Jeffrey Myers and Ryan Meehan, violist Jeremy Berry and cellist Estelle Choi. The name of their quartet is an amalgamation of “California” and “dore,” French for “golden,” celebrating the cultural diversity and support they’ve received from their Los Angeles base in the Golden State.
Myers has been a featured soloist with orchestras including the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the National Repertory Orchestra and the Colburn Orchestra, where he served as concertmaster.
Meehan has performed throughout North America and Europe in such venues as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. He has garnered top prizes Washington International Competition, American String Teachers Assn. National Solo Competition and others.
Berry earned his bachelor of music degree from the Julliard School and is in the Professional Studies Certificate program at Colburn, where he is principal violist of the orchestra. He has soloed with the American Youth Symphony and the Bellingham Festival of Music and participates in festivals throughout the U.S.
Cellist Choi, a native of Calgary, Alberta, is principal cellist with the Colburn Orchestra, as well as the Young Musicians Foundation’s Debut Orchestra. She has earned numerous prizes in both Canada and the U.S., including First Prize at the 2012 Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition.
The Feb. 23 concert is sponsored by the Placentia Founders Society, which preserves and maintains the Bradford House.
Other concerts in the Bradford House Chamber Concert season are the Santiago String Quartet on March 16, and Triple Entendre on April 27. Information is available by leaving a message at the Bradford House at (714) 993-2470 or at www.thebradfordhouse.info
