What to Do February Vacation Week 2014 Sharon MA 02067 - Part 1

It's February vacation week for most Massachusetts schools and there is SO much to do! Here's a list of activities at libraries, bookstores, crafts stores, malls and area Chidren's Museums. Watch for my next post: Where to Sled, Snowshoe, Tube, Skate and more! Plus, some favorite activities to do at home! I'd love to hear from you about your ideas, or programs you and your family enjoy! Monday, February 17 through Sunday, February 23

Easton Children's MuseumEaston Children's Museum has such a great week planned! Check their website for all the details including "The Case of the Fantastic Forgery", Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog, Science Roadshow and much more! Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Acton Discovery Museums, 177 Main Street, Acton - If you haven't made the trip to the Acton Discovery Museums, I highly recommend it! There are 2 museums on the campus: A Children's Discovery Museum for toddlers through early grades, and a Science Discovery Museum geared to older elementary children to adults. If you go with 2 adults and different age children, you can easily split up between the two (very manageable sized) buildings. Both museums are open 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. from Saturday, February 15 - Sunday, February 23. Check out the programs and timesActon Discovery Museums

In the Children's Discovery Museum, there are 3 floors of hands-on, child-sized play and learning activities. Surround yourself with bubble walls, serve customers at a diner, and much more! In the Science Discovery Museum, there are a ton of Lego and Keva Construction activities coinciding with National Engineering Week. Tel: 978-264-4200. Travel time from Sharon is about 45 minutes. Pack a lunch and spend the day. You will love it!

10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (ongoing all week) - Emerald Square Mall, Attleboro - Activities are located on Level 1 next to Guest Services. There are coloring pages and special craft activities every day. Monday: President's Day Word Search; Tuesday: Create Pencil Critters; Wednesday: Snowflake crafts; Thursday: Escalator Safety Video and Workbook; Friday: Color Your Own Yo-Yo; Saturday and Sunday: Bounce House (Level 1 in the Sears Court). Events are free for Simon Kidgits Club members. Non-members can sign up for a $5 annual fee at Guest Services or at events throughout the week. Tel: 508-699-7979.

12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. (ongoing) - Emerald Square Mall, Attleboro - Create Your Child's ID with the North Attleboro Police Department (at the Bounce House).

Saturday, February 15 & Saturday, February 22

Read to Toby at the Sharon Public Library10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - Sharon Public Library - Read with Toby! Register OnlineFor independent readers! Register to read out loud to Toby, a 2-year-old Goldendoodle and certified therapy dog. Builds confidence and strengthens reading skills. Bring your favorite book! 1:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. - Sharon Public Library - Lunch Bunch. Book group for ages 7-8. Pre-registration preferredBring your lunch and we'll bring dessert. Please do not bring any food items containing nuts! This month's selection, "Valentine Day Disaster" by Geronimo Stilton. Monday, February 17Learn about and hold baby animals

Wednesday, February 19

6:45 P.M. - 7:30 P.M. - Sharon Public Library -Bedtime Math Pajama Party! Ages 4-7.Pre-registration required. You've heard about bedtime stories, but what about bedtime math? Find out how much fun you can have with Bedtimemath.orgbedtime math activities such as "Zip Line Zoo" and "Mystery Clocks".
Children will go home with a goody bag and moer ideas for bedtime math. The Sharon Public Library is partnering with Cradles to Crayons and the Boston Bruins to provide new pajamas (kids sizes 0 - 20) for local children in need. 100th Day Worries at Sharon Public LibraryThursday, February 20

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Sharon Public Library - 100th Day Worries! Ages 5+. Register online. "100th Day Worries" is the story of Jessica, who gets very worried when her teacher assigns a special project for the 100th day of school. Will she be able to find a collection of 100 things to bring to school? Presented by Jessie Kravette to celebrate the Sharon Public Library Building's 100th anniversary and to honor 100 day celebrations throughout the school district. 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. - Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, Sharon - Owl Moon. Registration Required. Register by phone: 781-784-5691. Members: $6/Non-members: $9. Ages 4-12. Join Patti Austin and experience the magic of calling for owls, after listening to the classic story, "Owl Moon". The program is specially designed for families with younger children, but all are welcome to attend!

Friday, February 21Madeline stories at Barnes & Noble

7:00 p.m. - 10 p.m. - Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, Sharon - Stargazing Parties. Free. Ages 6-18 years. No registration required. Join local astronomers for a look at the stars and other night objects through big telescopes. This event is ongoing so Stargazing at Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuarydrop in for all or some of the evening. Call Patti after 6 p.m. the night of the event for a prerecorded message concerning the status of the program due to weather. Tel: 781-784-5691. Park in the Nature Center parking lot and follow the glow-band marked trail to the viewing field. Bring a flashlight for the short, self-guided trail walk. 

Saturday, February 22

My kids loved it, too, Christine! There aren't too many museums for young children, but the few that there are, are really terrific!
