Margaret Rome and Floyd Wickman on ALL ABOUT REAL ESTATE
I listen to Margaret Rome on Sunday's from 12-1 PM on All About Real Estate as often as I am able. Not only is it because I love Margaret both professionally and personally, it's because she has great content. She doesn't just take the hour to talk about the homes she has for sale (though she does, because it is a great service for her sellers), she provides an open forum for folks to share and learn about real estate, not only in Maryland, but across the country.
I have often heard Margaret talk about Floyd Wickman, her mentor and colleague. I heard him on her show recently. When I told someone that Margaret had him on her show they said, I am sure it wasn't Floyd, it was probably one of his trainers. NOPE, it was Floyd Wickman himself.
Today, after a flood of calls, texts and emails about her last show, Margaret asked Floyd if he'd be kind enough to come back. He graciously accepted. He talked quite a bit about things he learned from his own friend and mentor, Zig Ziglar. Since I first started in sale, Zig has always been one of my favorite motivational speakers. Mr. Wickman even wrote a book "Lessons From My Brother Zig, A Self-Help Process for Gaining or Re-Gaining Success". You can purchase it here for your kindle.
There were so many great nuggets for success in life, not just in Real Estate shared today. Here are just a few:
1. Trust someone who has been where you don't want to go. (You don't have to make the mistakes on your own, you can learn from mistakes that others have made, saving you time, money and aggravation!)
2. If you have character, techniques can be taught.
3. Don't worry, that's God's job. Mr. Wickman made a list of 43 things he was worried about. As each thing didn't happen, he moved it to another list. There was only 1 thing that actually came to be, and worrying didn't help any of them!
4. Repeating something over and over increases the odds that it will come true. (Affirmations). If you read it as you repeat it, those odds increase by 20%. If you read it, repeat it and visualize it, those odds increase by 30%. Word without belief and actions will not get you very far.
5. Relationships are key. Floyd has always kept Friday night date nights with his wife sacred. Margaret always kept Monday night date nights with TLH. How many of us are "too busy" to schedule in time for those we love?
Floyd Wickman is impressive. No, it's not just because he is a world class speaker, prolific writer and a very successful man in so many aspects. Not because he is a household name in most real estate circles. Not even because he has been married to the same woman for 50 years, or had a 40 year mentorship with Zig Ziglar, a man I admire. The thing that impressed me most is when he offered words of hope and encouragement to someone he barely knew, and then offered his personal cell phone number for this gentleman to contact him whenever he needed some help or an ear. THAT is the sign of a great human being.
All About Real Estate is all about life!
