There are a lot of things that come to mind when I think of thieves. In particular, what of mine they would want to take. That's why this list struck cme as so odd. These are the 10 weirdest items that thieves steal according to 24/7 Wall Street.
1.) Laundry detergent - Seriously? I would have thought my ipad would have been more attractive. Tide in particular is a popular brand that is stolen and traded for drugs and other items.
2.) Allergy medicine - I would have thought that having to sign in with a pharmicist to get an antihistamine would have been a deterient, but most allergy medicines are re-sold for their intended use!
3.) Pregnancy tests - I simply have no words, a
consistent demand for the product?
4.) Catalytic converters - Apparently, the metals that go into making this car part have particularly high prices. Upwards of $1,400 per ounce!
5.) Manhole covers - Again, as in the case of #4, metal prices are driving this theft, even with this item weighing hundreds of pounds!
6.) Nutella - This amazes me, what's next, Jiff?
7.) Sap - Producing We're talking about the sap to make maple syrup here. Approximately 40 gallons of sap are required to produce one gallon of syrup, and we all know how expensive real maple syrup is. Theives are not getting the sap from the trees, but from warehouses.
8.) Shrubbery - We aren't talking about your average fern here, although potted plants are a target. But plants such as rare orchids and cacti are high targets. Many stolen plants are valuable because of their rarity.
9.) Small boats - Smaller boats are more at risk because they are easier to transport. If your boat is
on a trailer, it can be hitched up to a truck and just
driven away!
10.) Steak - Ahhhh, now we're getting somewhere! With lower supply and rising demand overseas, the price of meat has risen. Old time cattle theft is now making a comeback with over 10,000 head of cattle (and horses) stolen in 2013.
So there you have it, the 10 weirdest items that thieves choose to pilfer!
