Easter is one of many holidays tied to the vernal equinox

which marks the return of spring and a renewal of the earth, which is why Easter symbols include rabbits and eggs-both ancient symbols of fertility.

The name Easter owes its origin from Eastre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess who symbolizes hare and egg.

The Easter Lilly symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus because the shell represents the tomb of Jesus and the flower that blooms represents life after death.

Most children (74%) eat the ears of their chocolate bunny first. 13% eat the feet first, and 10% eat the tails first.

In 1878 U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes and his wife Lucy officially opened the White House grounds to the children of the area for egg rolling on Easter Monday. The event has been held on the South Lawn ever since, except during World War I and World War II.

Here is another tradition that many may not know about. Eastport sock burning: Here is a link announcing last years event. http://www.whatsupmag.com/mar07/cellar.shtml I used to live in Eastport Maryland before moving to the Beach last year. I an hosting a neighborhood party next Saturday to bring the Tradition here to the Beach.

Anona, Being a coastal area the bays off of Ocean City are shallow so not to many Sail boaters but plenty of power boaters and fisherman with the access to the ocean thru to Ocean City Inlet.

Scott -- These socks... are they washed before they burn? lol I'm reminded of the song... Ooooh that smell. Can't you smell that smell? lol.

interesting. but i still don't get it why people celebrate Easter with bunnies and looking for eggs and at the same time saying their honoring the ressurection of Jesus Christ. A pagan tradition with historical event? What are these parents teaching their children. Love and say you believe in G-d and participate in a pagan tradition? Some food for thought.
