Pet Care Tips / Cold Weather

Keep your cat inside.

Outdoors, cats can freeze, become lost or be stolen, injured or killed.

Cats who are allowed to stray are exposed to fatal infectious diseases, including rabies.

 Own a short-haired breed?

Consider getting him a coat or sweater with a high collar or turtleneck that covers the dog from the base of the tail on top to the belly underneath. While this may seem like a luxury, it is a necessity for many dogs.

Never leave your dog or cat alone in a car during cold weather.

A car can act as a refrigerator in the winter, holding in the cold.

The animal can freeze to death. If your dog is sensitive to the cold due

to age, illness or breed type, take him outdoors only to relieve himself.

Make sure your companion animal has a warm place to sleep away from all drafts and off the floor, such as in a dog or cat bed with a warm blanket or pillow in it.

My dogs and cat are in the house except when they want to go out and play - it's my horse who has had to wear a blanket all winter. He just came to us in June, but supposedly had lived in the cold north all his life. Why then, did he not grow a thick winter coat?

Good tips! Another one that we have run into a lot this year is the issue of salt. We had a very icy winter in VT this year which meant a lot of salt on the roads, driveways and parking lots. Our office administator has had to wipe the feet of her dog Vince everytime she brings him in to avoid his feet getting burns from walking through our office parking lot. She has started keeping a rag in her desk to make sure his feet are clean. Salt burns as well as salt injestion can be serious issues for our pets.

Great and very useful tips. Well except all these tips we should be careful about their allergies towards different food. And also need to check with the doctor regarding the health problems and the regular diet schedules of your pet.I have added some points regarding the care and grooming of pet from slide share.
