For those of you who follow me on my blog, you may recall my daughter lives in Switzerland. I can only imagine how excited she was to wake up this morning with the snow caps of the Alps in the short distance and sand the color of guava jam orange on her window sill and a light cover of sand covering the roof tops of the Swiss Chalets.
She sent me pictures of her making mini sand castles but for some strange reasons I was able to see them; yet when I tried to copy I get blank photos. So you'll have to close your eyes and imagine what they looked like. She also sent me an article in German that simply says the phenomenon of the Sahara sands blows over the Alps in the direction of Switzerland.
Inquisitive minds wants to know more and I discovered that much of the beach sand in Florida actually comes from the Sahara Desert and it has been blowing over the Atlantic since the ice ages. They call it Saharna Air Layer if you want to learn more. This was news to me and I thought I'd share it with you. My only regret is that I can't share my daughters photos of her playing in the sand making mini castles overlooking the beautiful countryside with the Swiss Alps in the background.
I think we ALL need a vacation. Don't you???
