I don't know about the rest of you, but I spent Sunday February 9th watch the Grammy Salute to the Beatles. I waited a little while to write a post about it, I am not sure why. I was born after their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, but I do remember my older sister crying when they announced that the band had broken up.
Like most of my generation, I grew up listening to Beatles songs, my older siblings were fans from that first Ed Sullivan show appearance. Their music was readily available, and in time, I too became a fan. I remember well, that horrible news on the 8th of December, 1980, the Beatles would never be able to come together again. Sorry, that was a bad play on song titles.
As much as any other group, they defined a generation, changed things. Whether you like them or not, it is hard to deny their influence on music and society. Watching other performers sing their songs, I was taken aback by the joy on Ringo's and Paul's faces as their music was being performed. I don't know why it surprised me so, there were a couple of performances that I didn't care for, but I found it refreshing to see two music icons beam with pride and excitement while their songs were played.
I realized that it was good to just sit back and remember good times, listening to their music. It did take me back to some simpler, more carefree times. Great memories!
One of my best here comes the sun pictures....
