Wake up call.
Meeting and greeting is part of the business standard. Asking the usual, "How are you today?" usually nets a "Fine!", "Great." or a "Doing well and you?" or an occasional "Fair to midland." After asking a fellow Chamber member during the weekly luncheon the same question, he replied...
"Well, I woke up this morning."
"Me too and glad I did!" I replied and smiled.

I woke up this morning still in good enough shape to finish moving the snow we got.
Usually, in the begining (morning), everybody is charged and positive and their responses would be: "Fine!", "Great." or a "Doing well and you?" . But, as it goes on toward to the end of day, their responses change to the second set;"Well, I woke up this morning."

The otherday I was shopping at Whole Foods when one of their employees asked me how I was doing, my response I believe was "Doing good, you?" I loved his response it was "Oh borderline fabulous"

You know Wanda, I gave your post some thought and I believe that when people ask, they really do want to know: HOW ARE YOU? In other words, it is a genuine question, however, the response to their question is perhaps more often semi-canned.
Jane, I think it all depends on the person and the day. I like to talk to people and engage them and show care given the time. Thank you for you opinion!
