A Creative Way to Market Localism on Your Blog.

I subscribe to Forbes on line and one of the interesting formats that Matt Woolsey, who writes a column for the Real Estate section, uses when he writes an article is he adds to his post a slideshow of photos that represents his article.

He creates a story by using photos usually 10 and it brings his point home in a crystal clear way. I was thinking about this and I could see might be a great format for Localism posts here on ActiveRain or in your own personal blogs.

I like other bloggers use photos but probably not to their best advantage and certainly not as cleverly as Matt does. As an example, instead of just writing about it, create the essence of the article in pictures. This will take some re-thinking and practice but I for one would like to learn to do this. If you can get your point across by reading the headlines and fewer words and having the pictures tell the story, it would be another cool way to increase your readership.

This is actually quite a simple idea but some of the best ideas are. Simple that is.

Hi Joan,

Happy Easter to you as well Joan.  Ok where did you get the bunny?  Very cute indeed. I love all your little add-ons.

As to doing slide shows with localism, it is much more difficult than I imagined. Finding bunches of pictures for articles, that are not just houses is a challenge. But I will figure it out and try one soon.

When I figure out the formula and the resources for a photo blog ( not a blog with photos), I will put one up and see what you think. Matt does it really well but the resources don't seem to be as available as one would first imagine. Then again, perhaps I am making this more difficult than need be.

William - perhaps your ForbesOnline is different from forbes.com? I went there and some 15 cookies later was able to click on a few Woolsey posts, but didn't see an example of the slideshow you were talking about. Could you give us a link?  Thanks.

Hi Sharon, In looking this past week, he has not been using them of late for some reason. I reviewed a number of them and was impressed. I get e-mail links to them ( as an e-mail subscriber-not using the RSS feed as I normally do with blogs ) , regrettably after I look at them I discard. I will watch and the next one he does I will send you the link.

Hi William, I am working on a localism article and this was a very timely post for me to find!  Great idea, as I have more pictures than text at this point.  Thanks!

Hi Susie, I am looking around for some help on this issue of a photoblog and  photoblog posts. Though the idea is rather a simple, there are so many possible ways to do it, I want to get some professional directions and have more automated.

The idea that one could ascribe 10 photos to create a story is an interesting one. Starting with the the idea and then a title for the post, researching the possible photos could be quite time consuming. Even if to take them yourself, being careful that the photo really does in fact create the content and then being careful that the subject in the photo does reveal identities or additional risk if it is of a property. When I was doing photos of subdivisions, I was reminded of the privacy act and the care I must use.

This is a real balancing act if one is to be able to do numerous photo blogs as a personal style.

Thanks for dropping by. Stay tuned I may actually write on this subject in greater detail.

I think this is similar to what Ed does on his site.
