1. America averaged 20,919 murders per year in the 1990's, and 16,211 per year in the 2,000's, according to the FBI. If the murder rate had not fallen, 47,000 more Americans would have been killed in the last decade than actually were. That is more than the population of Buloxi, Mississippi.
2.Despite a surge in airline travel, there were half as many fatal plane accidents in 2012 than there were in 1960, according to the Avaition Safety Network.

Wayne ...it still amazes me that there are that many murders ...We had a terrible killing just a few miles up the road yesterday ...soon to be ex-husband murdered his wife, son, mother-n-law and himself, He also shot his father-n-law who is in stable condition. The wife taught at VA High with Aimee ...it's a really das time

Glad that the murder rate went down by that much. Watching the news you'd think the opposite, but I guess with technology we just hear about it more often and easily.
Wayne, That is good news about the reduction in murders and airline crashes. Some things are improving.
In light of the fact that population is growing, so on percentage basis, the murder stat is even more impressive.

I wonder Wayne what would be an acceptable number? If you ask people they may say cut it in half or less. That is unless you ask them what would be an acceptable number for their family.
