2013 Green Homes Trends Grows to $36 Billion and Predicted to Double.
McGraw Hill Construction (MHC) just released findings from a new Green Home Builders and Remodelers Study showing that Green homes comprised 23 percent of the overall residential construction market in 2013 which is equal to $36 Billion market opportunity. MHC estimates that the green market share will grow to between 26 percent and 33 percent by 2016 which is more than double of today’s market of $36 Billion to $83-$105 billion in 2016.
68% of builders and 84% of remodelers report that home owners are willing to pay more for green construction with an average of 3% for new green homes and 5% for green remodeling projects.
Builder’s involvement in Green Building Activity has almost doubled from 2011 to 2013 with:-
- 16% of builders building more than 90% green projects in 2013.
- 66% of builders involved in green projects in 2013.
A second consumer survey by Guild Quality along with the National Association of Builders shows satisfaction and the value of sustainable building practices with owners of green homes:
- 94% of homeowners would recommend a green home
- 92% would purchase another green home
- 71% believe that green homes overall are of higher quality
The green features that are most valued by the consumer are:
- Low utility bills.
- Energy efficiency.
- Heating & Cooling.
- Insulation.
Builders and Contractors should affiliate themselves with trained Realtor in the field of energy efficiency and sustainable practices to help sell their Green Homes. The National Association of Realtors has trained GREEN Home Consultant/Realtor who can easily be found at the Green Resource Council website.
