Evanston Illinois had a fantastic year all the way around in 2013. Evanston is zip codes 60201, 60202, and 60203. 2014 is really looking up as many new restaurants, stores and condo developments have been planned or are in progress.
The City of Evanston reported that 72 businesses opened in 2013 and that added a total of 210 full time jobs and 246 part time jobs. Great news for locals. These new businesses included 22 retail, 13 restaurants and 7 work out or fitness related establishments. We got one new gas station, a brewery, multiple food and grocery stores and one photography studio with extra offices.
The city of Evanston IL logged about $30,000,000 in commercial buildings. Among the top buildings permits were given to Walgreens ($6.3 million), Trader Joe’s ($2.3 million), Erie Family Health Center ($2.4 million), Evanston Hospital ($1.4 million) and Davita Dialysis ($1.1 million).
Northwestern University started building the Bienen School of Music and is also building a visitors center and Sailing School and that construction is values at over $188,000,000. Good news all around.
At the end of 2013 the vacancy rates were only 4.9% for offices and 11.8% for retail, 4.3% for industry. This number is shrinking in 2014. Our unemployment rate dropped from 7.4% to 6.3% and continues to go down.
