Tranquility for "color tired eyes"

After sorting through several design magazines. catalogs, and various websites it seems the trends this coming year will be shades of green and organic.  I attended a floral design workshop and this was the theme of one of the presentations in several designs.  Like so many of us have done before when staging is to go and cut greenery from yard and arrange it in a clear fish bowl and if you haven't it makes a very subtle and unassuming statement to buyers. Visually shades of green are calming, tranquil, fresh, and of course, organic.  These arrangements were very simple in design, from a succulent in a small, low container, clear showing the water to several date palm leaves in the fish bowl.  It's the little details like this, I believe, that makes the difference and it's so simple but not "cheesy."

Anyway, I thought I would share that with you.

The LR in the home to the left is beautiful but imagine some "fresh" greenery, like springeri fern in a clear container on the fireplace mantle that is stark white along with the stark white walls.  It would make it more appealing and reflect more of a focal point without being overpowering.

Ahhhh, that sounds so refreshing. I like clear glass with cutting from the yard...especially succulents and cactus like this one. Not as relaxing but cheap! Thanks for the fresh looks

My little sister has actually talked me into redesigning her bedroom and she wants what I call a 'spa' green - tranquil. So I did a proposal like I would any other client and she loves it especially paired with her already purple accents. She is twelve - so I would never do a living room like that, but I have to admit after doing this proposal I am converted - I never really thought of green before, but I guess I was always thinking of a dark forest green - the sages are quite pretty if done right.

Cheryl, paler shades of green with plum, rock.  Get your paint fan decks out and try different shades of green with deep plums, it's to me a sophisticated look and she'll have the colors to grow up in.  The plums will be your accent color, let me know how it turns out.  I would stay far away from dark greens, forest, hunter, evergreen, John Deere green, awful and too heavy and of course, dated.  Muted greens work well.
