WHAT?? No spring break??? WHY not? Stuck again!!

Well, mother nature has zapped us again.  Thousands stranded in the Midwest.  Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee has been closed since this morning. Flights were diverted to Appleton Wisconsin - most people haven't heard of Appleton.  And those poor folks are stuck there for now, it's not safe to travel.

O'Hare  International in Chicago has cancelled hundreds of flights.

Families trying to get to Florida for their spring vacations will have to see what Milwaukee has to offer for entertainment.  That is, after the roads are cleared.  We are getting our worst storm of the winter.  Good Friday - it's not supposed to be like this....

Ash Wednesday gave us 10 inches of snow and a horrible storm - stranded motorists near Madison overnight.... What is with the holidays!! It is SPRING!! Someone please tell mother nature!  Church services are cancelled, Fish Fry's are cancelled.  The local Mall - Mayfair in Wauwatosa, closed for the second time this winter.  (And that is the first in 20 years!!)

This morning at 5:45 it started and there is already 6 - 12 inches all over Wisconsin....so far.  The storm will  last into tonight!

There is a bright side though --  Here's a look at my Golden Retriever who thinks the snow is great!

How is the weather where you are?  Do you have spring?

I would be outside with your Golden!  I will trade you, it's 83 outside and partly sunny.  Send us some snow and I will send you some Hawaiian Sunshine!

Cheers-

Mike

Hi JIM - I don't blame you!  I often wonder why my ancestors parked it in the Midwest and not somewhere warm!

Mike - Boy, I'd love to trade places.  I have always wanted to see Hawaii!  I will have to add it to my list of 5 year goals!  Simba and I have frollicked in the snow a bit today.  It's very cold though - the wind is blowing at about 25 miles per hour.  It really is nasty.  Tomorrow will be the day to really play outside - we will  have sunshine and 35 degrees.  (And sadly, that will feel like about 60 to me!)

Hi Gayle,

Well, spring will get here eventually, in the meantime all the Easter Egg Hunts were postponed until next week - we'll see if the weather is any better! The sun is shining today and the snow we got ended up being 15 inches!  Needless to say all appts. yesterday were cancelled.

Hello April,
I know you guys are more than ready for spring.  We've had a mild winter with the temperatures on a roller coaster ride.  On Friday we were in the mid 70's, today it was only in the mid 50's.  We not had any snow this year.

Steve - thanks for dropping by.  You are right! Spring is a state of mind and starting tomorrow - it's spring in my book -  and all week, no matter how many times it snows. LOL!

More opinions than you want to hear about.

April,

Soon it will be time for me to leave my wonderful 70 degree comfort.  Yes, in another few weeks, it will be warm enough for me to go outdoors.  The good news, your Golden probably is not in immediate danger of snakebites, disease carrying ticks and mosquitoes, or heatstroke.

Hi Mike,

I LOVE your golden on your website.  He looks like a person :)

Where are you?  The desert for the winter?

I see you are from Minnesota, please check out my Blog about a benefit being held in Minneapolis - can you help me get the word out? see http://activerain.com/blogsview/429952/Sometimes-life-sucks-Please

April,

I'm here in MN, and I do mean "in"  As soon as the grass turns green I'll be venturing outdoors!  Will do whatever I can to help promote the benefit, certainly a worthy cause.

The dog pic on the home page of my website is Lindy, mother of the only litter we ever bred.  She has been gone a dozen years, and we still can't get the others to pose as well as she did.  We have one of Lindy's pups who will be 15 in June.  Blaze (right) is still active and we hope to do a few more agility trials with her.  We have another Golden who looks a little like yours, but not necessarily in this pic.  Smokey (left)came from Sheboygan.  We lost Blaze's littermate, Sherman (center) last month to a degenerative spinal disk condition.

Mike -

I thought with the rattlesnake comment you were in a desert.... ANYWAY

What an adorable picture!!!!    And sorry to hear about Sherman.  It is always so tough to say goodbye to our loved ones.   I am so glad to hear your goldens live to a ripe old golden age.  Our first only made it to 10 and we were so sad.  We had hoped for 13 or so....

I have rescued 2 goldens now, and 3 actually if you count the first one that I bought at a Pet Store.  (She was very aggressive and may not have gotten a good home if we didn't offer her one. ) I now know soooo much better not to go the store/puppy mill route.  A little over 2 years ago we said bye to "Packer", he was a large golden - 135 lbs and a very sweet dog - we got him from Green Bay - his Foster Mom was connected with RAGOM - Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota! Here's Packer....

Thank you for your help with the benefit!

Hi April,

It sure is hard to lose them.  Packer and the rest of your pups were fortunate to have you find them.  Packer looks like a real sweetheart.  RAGOM has grown tremendously since its early days.  Originally, it was one person, Jane Nygard, and her husband, Hank who was not in good health, plus one other person who was unable to drive after dark.  So, really it was just Jane.  With a little (very little) help from a local breed club, Jane was able to incorporate, gain 501c3 status as a charity, and grow the organization to its current status.  They rescue hundreds of Goldens and Golden mixes every year.  If you ever have room for another, just go to their website.

Back to snow...  Ours is almost gone.  I have to type fast because there is a winter storm watch and this statement may not hold up more than a day.  The dogs will be happy, the snow plow will push another ton of gravel from the road onto my lawn, and everybody in Minnesota will have to re-learn how to drive in winter conditions (it's been over a week).  Oh well, houses show better in snow than in mud.
