It's an exciting time when a couple is ready to buy their first home.  Whether they've paid their last rent check or are finally departing their parent's basement, many unknowns swirl about.

First Time Home Buying Couples aren't always aware of the big picture.  From credit checks to resale value there is much information needed on issues they may not recognize.

But you do! Your job is to make the process as informative and painless as possible.  Think of the FAQ's your first time buying couples brought up in the past; it's likely those questions are on the minds of these new buyers too.

A post like this can save you time in the future as you bring on more and more first time home buying couples.  Update your information as required and help those excited new buyers better prepare for the journey ahead.

Carla has an important point.  However, the one thing I see when it is two people buying a house - as opposed to one - is that the two people are not always on the same page and end up having arguments in front of me.  So, my services are not different but I do have one piece of advice for two (or more) people buying a house together that doesn't really pertain to singles (unless the single person argues with Him or her self!

The title did not sit well with me...why was it just not "first time homebuyers"  Does this advice not apply to singles??

Carla has a point... I think a clever attorney could make something out of this.

The law doesn't have anything to do with advice given to people.  You don't discriminate if you give advice.  You only discriminate if you say that couples are the only people who can buy homes.

With total and absolute respect to Kerrie comment #36 (Hi, Kerrie!)...

I am with Carla comment #32 et al.  I won't touch this with a 10 foot pole.  Federal Judges will interpret the Fair Housing Law as they see fit.  Too much risk to take, just for some Blogging Glory.

Buying your first home can be a scary experience. When working with the first time buyer my role as their agent is to help them to make a good real estate decision. Sometimes this can be difficult especially working through the maze of loving advice from parents, grandparents, relatives, co-worker and even the media.

I agree about this topic violating Federal Fair Housing Laws. I think that this would make a better topic if it was written for first time home buyers in general rather than only for couples.  It could have a few paragraphs about handling conflict resolution between different parties when purchasing a home.

Great topic to blog about and certainly something I should have available to link to my first time buyers.

First time buyers are very exciting to work with from the home inspection side.  They are very curious and interested in learning about their new home!

I don't see anything wrong with just writing a FAQ blog for First Time Homebuyers.  If Trulia wants to use it, great.  If not, great.  It doesn't have to be written with couples in mind.

First time buyers are in need of as much information as they can get but don't forget the second time buyers who may be going through the process after many years in their original home.  Whether someone is paying cash of financing the purchase the paperwork, disclosures, agreements can be endless and intimidating for anyone, be ready to educate your clients for a smoother and happier transaction.

That's a great topic to cover! It's fun to write the blog about it and very helpful to read about! It makes me think of so many episodes of House Hunters and a big naivety of the potential first buyers. I have been looking for a few homes myself in my early 20's and I made comments like: I don't like the color of the dining room, I don't like the cabinet's handles… We all are learning through our mistakes. I wish I read the blog about first time buyers, before I went "house hunting"

We just did this over the weekend.  And my brand new buyers agent after hearing all the horror stories of multiple offers and no results and hours and days and weeks of touring got to show 4 homes and they bought.  Sent to bank, approved in 3 days, inspection Monday and closing in under a month.

She is like "that was easy" who's next?

"Couples" is NOT a PROTECTED CLASS

I do not see an issue!  My closing yesterday (one of the most fun for all who were there), was an unmarried couple.  How about same sex couples?  All kinds of "couples" buy homes.  I think the topic is Perfect!
