Housing Market Update for the Washington DC Metro Area

In Maryland, the housing market continues to show steady growth. According to new data from the Maryland Association of Realtors, existing homes sold in January rose 1.1% over numbers in 2013.

3,407 homes sold in January 2013 compared to 3,443 homes sold in January 2014

Since January is usually a slow month for real estate, these numbers, while very gradual, are good and moving in the right direction!

According to RBI Statistics,  in Northern Virginia, there were 1602 closed sales in January 2014 which was down a little (8.61%) from the 1753 closed sales in January 2013.

and finally, in Washington DC's 20009 popular neighborhoods, RBI statistics show a vibrant real estate market where buyers and seller didn't seem to care that we had a foot of snow on the ground! Home sales are up 1.82% in January 2014 from the same time last year. The average days on the market in 20009 is 55 days.Washington DC has a thriving restaurant scene, excellent and free museums to visit and beautiful streets and parks to walk.

Thank you Jeff.

We can thank the federal government, military bases and hospitals (NIH and Walter Reed) for sustaining the real estate market.
