FLAGGING YOUR "OWN" POST TO BE FEATURED - APPROPRIATE OR INAPPROPRIATE

By
Real Estate Agent with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers
I recently discovered that you can flag you "own" post to be featured.  At first I, thought why would I want to do that?  My post my not be interesting to anyone other than myself.  You may think your post is worth reading to you but others may not.  What do you think?  Do you think it is appropriate or inappropriate to flag your "own" post?  I am curious to what others may have to say?  Thanks for your response.

Sonya - To be honest I just thought flagging posts were just a way to control spam, never knew you could flag to be featured aswell.  Hmm good information to share, as far as your question I guess it doesn;t automatically appear to be featured, its just a way of letting the mods know you want it featured.  Doesn't hurt to try I guess.

Justin - Thanks for commenting.  You are right.  It does not hurt anything.  I just didn't want to feel "big-headed".  It doesn't bother me if others do it.

Sonya - I never thought about it, but I don't think I could flag myself. Just my opinion, but I have flagged tons of others for a feature.

I did not realize that could be done either. Well more power to them, but I guess that I would want someone else to appreciate what I wrote enough that they would want it featured. I do no think that I would do it myself.

SonyaThey can probably tell who flagged it , and even if they can't it just doesn't seem right, I'm sure people do but can't see myself doing it. Can't say that I care if I ever get featured I know it's not likely to happen.

Sonya:

In my opinion, "FEATURE" flagging my own blogs isn't cool. I would want my fellow AR Members to think enough of my writing to flag me. Plus...Others critiquing my blog help with improving my writing skills.

Sonya, I have been on AR for a while and my gut reaction is to tell you not to flag your own post.  Our moderators are very good and I think it may seem too self-serving to flag your own....but, if it is flagged by someone else that is great!

Sonya - No, flagging your own isn't the thing to do, IMO!  If a piece is worthy you will get your kudos.  Let the community decide.

I never thought of that, Sonya, but I wouldn't flag my own.  I have flagged several - sometimes they move down the dashboard so fast, it a lot of people are posting at the same time, that I am afraid the Gods will miss a good one.  Or do they read every one - how could they?

Sonya, I, personally would not flag my own to be featured 'cause I don't really want to be featured! By the time I comment to each comment and then go to their post to reciprocate, it takes days. ;-)  Seriously, it's a lot of work, but many people really like being featured, so go for it...........especially if you think it is awesome!

You can flag it but that does not mean it will be featured.

I can be completely honest here. I HAVE flagged my own posts for features, if I think I've written something that's feature-worthy. The powers-that-be are the ones who brought it to my attention, that we could do this. I've probably done it about 5 times. 2 of those 5 were featured. One was AR featured and one was Localism featured. If the tools are there, why wouldn't we use them? There is no rule against it.
