Real Estate Broker/Owner with Van Blake-Coleman Realty, St. Thomas/www.talk-to-Tanya.com 1-16940-1B

Mahogany Run is a well established residential area on St. Thomas know for it's homes, condos and the only full golf course with wonderful ocean views on St. Thomas.

An applications was submitted by Jaredien Design Group to the DPNR (Department of Planning and Natural Resources) on February 4, 2014, for a zone variance for parcel D-34 Lovenlund, No 2 GNS,  3 acres of  land, located across from the entrance to the golf course. The application requests permission to allow for the construction of a 24000 square foot, two level commercial structure. This will be a significant change for this North side neighborhood.

Questions being raised at an up coming hearing and a meeting in the community are:

How will this effect traffic and security in the community?

How much noise and construction "nuisance" will there be and how long will it last?

How will this impact the values of the homes, and condos in Mahogany Run?

There is a meeting scheduled in Mahogany Run for owners at 5:30 on the 4th of March.

There is a public hearing scheduled at DPNR, which is located at the airport, on March 6th at 6 pm.

Hi Tanya. What was the outcome of those meetings last week on the zoning variances? Yes, St. Thomas is well known for it's golf courses, condos, homes, and nice weather.

The out cry from the residence within the Mahogany Run gates against the change was very strong. There were more than 100 people who attended the meeting at the pool in the condo complex. The developer postponed the hearing at DPNR to regroup. A Realtor who was advertising the potential for applying for variances on other land she had listed within the complex was confronted.  The owners and residents have started an online petition,  they contacted their counsel and organize a task force to combat the variance. I think this will be quite a fight.
