Why do we do what we do? Why are some things extraordinarily important to us, and other things we don't care about whatsoever. Most of the time it's based on the way we view the world. Our Weltanschauung, if you will.
We were challenged by Pat Kennedy to develop our own Weltanschauung. When you think about it, we all have one already, we just haven't taken the time to put it into writing. Here's what I think:
- I'm a Christ follower. It impacts most everything I do. I don't throw it into everyone's face, but I'm a believer. I'm not ashamed to say I want to be more like Him.
- I try to treat others in the way I would like to be treated. That applies to business as well as personal relationships. I don't think you can go wrong with this philosophy.
- I accept people for who they are. That doesn't mean I agree with everyone I meet. We're all wired up differently, and I think that's a pretty cool thing. It would be a boring world if we were all the same!
- Communicating with one another is the most important thing we do. When communication breaks down, things fall apart--whether it's a real estate transaction or a marriage.
- I believe we have to continue to grow or we might as well die. Strong words, but if we don't continue to challenge ourselves with new ideas or new ways of doing things we might as well not be alive. The phrase, "We've always done it this way..." has no place in our world today.
- God. Family. Work. In that order. Those are the priorities for me. If I get these turned around, I have only myself to blame for the resulting problems.
This is my personal Weltanschauung. It's what's important to me.
