Help Trying to Keep Out the Garbage From Computer

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Carousel Realty of Dyer County Tn 248435000

About 3 weeks ago my computer crashed and died so I replaced it. The new computer I purchased is running windows 8. It came preloaded with Norton antivirus(4 week trial). It did not take long before all kinds of pop up adds starting appearing on my screen while I am using firefox browser.

I love firefox but not all the ads. I have looked in my control panel for unwanted programs but still the problem persists. I just now had a video pop up and start playing while I am writing this blog post.

Ever since this problem started on this new computer, I keep getting a pop up saying my browser is out of date and to clike here to fix it. I think I loaded the latest version of firefox so I am not going to "click here".

If I use the google chrome browser I don't have any of these problems popping up.

So is my problem the Norton Antivirus loaded on this computer or should i just continue using google chrome? These pop-ups sure are annoying.

You find out fast how dependent you are for computers when they go down!  It's like you have now been cut off from the world.

I don't know the answer to your questions, but good luck.

I am having the same issue using firefox and internet 7.  No difference.  Pop up blockers slow things down but don't stop it.

I think that is a virus. I got the same thing. I use AVG anti-virus, and it's really good at catching things, but missed this one like Norton did.

Search the wording in the pop-up and you will find fixes for it.

I love Firefox, too, and I think this is a computer virus not related to a particular browser.

AVG and Avast are fantastic for malware and antivirus.  I also recommend CCleaner.  It's a free program that can clean out your hard drive of old files, clean out your internet browsers' cache, and can identify and disable the programs that run on startup.  My computer is always faster after running a CCleaner scan.

I also second Avast. It's free and it constantly checks your system(s). I have not been a fan of Norton since 2002, as it was allowing all kinds of hidden malware etc. enter into my computer. After being introduced to Avast by a Office Depot tech, I haven't looked back.

We use various ones  but we have not had any issues since chrome. Karpersky has worked for us but the customer service sucks

Any time you have popups on your screen, it typically means you have some sort of virus. I have not heard of Avast, but it sounds like several people are using it so I will check it out.
