Whether you call it Sendero Hills, The Meadows at Trinity Crossing, Agave or Nine Sixty Nine, there's no mistaking - it's a cool neighborhood full of chic modern amd affordable homes.
Spot anything wrong with that last statement?
Yes, you got it - the word "full".
The Agave neighborhood was battling the housing crash in 2007 and 2008, and Westminster Falcon and Vicina built some stunning homes with local architecture heroes like Rick Black custom designing new energy efficient homes on the decent sized East Austin lots. The word stunning is bandied about like so much realtor hyperbole in MLS descriptions throughout the US, but if you've taken a drive through Agave, you'll see what I mean. 
It's a collection of brightly colored, funky shaped houses. You're not staring at a collection of neatly stacked garage doors as you traverse Nine Sixty Nine - you're discovering new arrangements of rooms. It's unlike anything in Austin.
After two rounds of building - starting with larger homes and finishing with smaller more efficient homes, the developer couldn't go on. So Wells Fargo took back the remaining lots and a few virtually finished homes, and then a new owner stepped in.
Agave Sendero Investments Ltd is now the proud owner of dozens of vacant lots and also a healthy dose of potential as of the end of January 2014. In 2010 there were 100 homes built, with room for 400 more.
While there is nothing in writing about the future of Agave, it is rumored that new homes will be built in the middle of the market - in the $300,000 - $400,000 range.
I for one am excited to see the next phase of new building at Agave, a development that has seen little construction in the last four years. The resale market is still healthy out there, as there really is nothing funky, detached, with a yard and modern at this pricepoint anywhere else in Austin - the short drive to 183 has kept the cost of land down.
