Tech Tip #5: The Anker Phone / Tablet Charger

Anker 'Lipstick' charger

Technology can be a great help in your real estate career.  However, just because it is the new 'flashy' thing doesn't mean that it will actually make you more productive.  I can say from experience that many tools end up just getting in the way and actually can slow you down.  With that in mind, here is the the fifth (of 10) tech tips that have proven to be a great help with my real estate business.

How many times have you looked at your phone and worried that your battery is about to die?  My solution to this phone battery phobia was the Anker Astro Mini Charger or as I like to call it - 'The Lipstick Charger'.

I know there are power users out there who scoff at this 'tiny' charger, that only holds enough charging power for 1.5 charges.  For them, I say it is small enough to fit in my pocket and cheap enough that I can still save up for that Tesla Model S that I want.  For $20, you can't beat it - unless, like me, your in Vegas and get lucky betting on Red.

Also, I wasn't a fan of the battery cases that covered my iPhones plug adaptor and turned it into a USB plug.  If I bought one of those,  I would not be able to use my Supra e-key dongle (to unlock lockboxes) without taking the phone out of the case. Thats too much work for a charge.

Another cool feature is that the Anker Mini comes with adaptors so that you can charge iPhone's, Android phones or just about any tablet.  If I am with friends that need a charge, I just ask "Wanna Borrow my Lipstick?" and watch their faces.  :)

This is great!  I'm searching for one now, as I'm constantly trying to conserve battery, turning off apps, etc etc.

I have found with my iphone 5 it holds about a charge and a half.  However, cant comment on the charge of other devices.

I may need one or two of these for the next convention or networking event I attend. Thats when I really run out of battery fast. Great tip.

Hey Stefan - for a 'power' user, you might want to consider some of the bigger chargers that can also charge multiple devices at once. I have just found that for day to day use, I don't need anything that powerful - or big

I didn't know that you called it 'your lipstick'.  Funny, but disconcerning.  :)

I've gotten a few types of battery back-ups recently. From this size, to slightly larger with a flashlight included, to a large one for the trunk that will power my tablet and a couple of phones.

Yes Travis, I just liked this one because it was small enough to hide.

How long does out take to recharge a phone? Is it a trickle or a hush? Thanks!

I usually charge it overnight, but I think it is an hour or two.
