There's a story about a grandma and grandpa who invited their grandkids over to spend the afternoon.

Grandpa decided to take his afternoon nap, so he laid down on the sofa for his rest.  While asleep, the grandkids decided to get some Limburger Cheese and put it in grandpa's mustache.

Once awake, grandpa sniffles and says, "This room stinks!"  Then he goes out into the kitchen and says, "It stinks in here too!" Finally he goes outside to get some fresh air and declares, "Whoa, the whole world stinks!"

If we relate this story to our attitudes and the way we wake up to approach our day, we must be careful of what's in our "mustache" or on our minds. There's nothing like having a clean fresh-air approach to your morning, your afternoon and your LIFE, than to have a fresh-thinking attitude with pleasant thoughts!

The Bible talks about thinking on whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, things that are of good report, things that bring praise or virtue....THINK ON THESE THINGS!

There's a sure-fire way to avoid the "stinking-thinking" mentioned above; that is to give out compliments. It truly is that simple! Giving compliments actually does just as much for the giver, if not more, than for the receiver.

Try it out & let me know how your day smells!

Very nice. I can't tell you how many times I taught that message to the youth group at our church... about literally thinking as that scripture teaches. Good job =)

Don - I used to have a crummy job (let's not say where) with a whole bunch of grumpy customers.  One day, I decided that I would smile and say something nice to every person I came across.  I had to get pretty creative with a few.  Toward the end of the day, an old gentleman walked up and handed me a Hershey bar and said, "Thank you for complimenting my wife on her hair earlier, today is the first day that I could get her out of the house since her hair started to grow out after her chemo treatments."  He made MY day!

Lisa:  That's way cool!  It's so true, yet every day we must retrain ourselves... Thanks for reading!

Virginia:  What a cool story! How powerful our words can be most of the time...even a smile! Thanks for sharing that!

It definitely does. So, here goes. That was a great post! I am sure grandpa wasn't happy about the mustache...hehe. It's easy to get down when everything seems to go wrong. But if you don't, things turn around alot quicker!

Don - Great stuff!  I like the mustache story.  It gets hard sometimes to focus on the good things, although I know that I am supposed to.  Compliments really do work wonders!

Don, that's a great way to drive home the point:  If you think the whole world stinks, better check yourself first!

A great reminder to us all.  I will begin spreading the joy immediatley. I suspect that when you begin you think you are doing it for others, but the truth is that it is you that receives the reward.

Christy:  Thanks for reading!  It seems so easy, but we always make it difficult.  Why is it so easy to dwell on the negatives in life?

Jason:  You are an amazing writer & I hope to get to meet you some day... Thanks again!

Kent:  We can't help anybody else smell the roses, if we can't smell them ourselves!  Thanks Kent!

Don, I agree. Giving genuine compliments each day to all those around you would be like putting perfume in this man's moustache. Then the world would be beautiful everywhere.

I do my best to stay away from others including in my office that have the stinking thinking attitude. Because you are right, if you compliment someone else it makes you feel better as well and that is the way it should be.

Wasnt it Zig Ziglar that said that your attitude is your altitude??

How fitting.  I'll be careful sleeping around my grandsons from now on.

I'd have loved to see him walking around thinking the whole world stinks.

Great point about our attitudes.  We need more than platitudes.

Todd:There is an old writing (poem) called the Desiderata (I believe) that talks about avoiding certain persons that are a vexation to your spirit.  I think negative attitudes can certainly become too contagious. Thanks for reading!

Gary White:Thank you Gary! I know I have to be reminded every day and it IS a choice, this attitude of ours...

Clint:  Yes, I think he said your attitude determines your altitude..  Great words from Zig!

Erby: I, too, now have a grandson (I'll be watching out as well)..

Elizabeth:  That's great advice for kids.  Remember, we are often the example they follow!
